The name Walden was inspired by the work of Henry David Thoreau. St. Mary’s County has been home to Walden since 1973. Walden is a local, community-based, CARF (Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited organization with four different service campuses in Southern Maryland.
Walden has received several excellence awards over the years. Two of these awards include:
- NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Southern Maryland Social Impact Award
- Better With Less Award from Maryland Comptroller’s Office
Walden’s mission is to contribute to the wellbeing of the communities we serve by providing a comprehensive array of trauma-informed crisis, behavioral health, and recovery services. We are dedicated to bringing "Help for today. Hope for tomorrow."
Walden exists to responsively meet community demand for behavioral healthcare, including the identification of emerging needs. We strive to provide high quality, compassionate services and leadership in the areas of integrated behavioral health (trauma-informed mental health and substance use disorder treatment), crisis intervention services, and recovery support services. We will have realized our vision when the communities we serve value the importance of brain-based health and wellness, and all seeking support toward greater health and wellness can receive and enjoy the life-long benefits of care.
